D2 occupies a middle ground. It offers strong wear resistance and holds an edge well, but it is often called semi-stainless rather than fully stainless. It needs more care than 440C or modern stainless alloys, particularly after contact with blood and moisture. In return, it can deliver impressive cutting life for a working hunting knife.
